Christian manhood and womanhood
Mike Russell has posted a long excerpt from Robert Hicks's Uneasy Manhood. Hicks writes about why men don't attend church services, and offers some sobering thoughts for the role of the preacher in that dynamic.
Dan Edelen, responding to Brian Colmery's post on protecting women in the church, has written a long and penetrating essay on the consequences for the church of accepting society's views of manhood and womanhood.
These are some good resources that I recommend for anyone trying to address the roles of men and women not on in the church, but in God's plan for humanity.
Update: The discussion continues at Run to Win.
Update 2: Michael Duduit has included an article in this week's Preaching Now about men and church attendance.

See my post on this topic - in part a response and thoughts contra Cerulean Sanctum and in part a different arc on the issue.
BTW, I went to college with Tim Melikian (OU), Chris Benjamin, Scott Karnes (U of Ark) at Univ of Ark while Dal Narramore was there. Heard your name a lot, but we've never met. Nice to see your blog, however!

Thanks for the link, Jeff. I updated the post to include a link to your post. Of those guys you named, only one looks familiar to me. Are you sure I'm the guy they were talking about?
I'm a Christian, but never get to church. On Sunday morning, I'm usually asleep until 10-10:30. Sunday is my only day of rest. I pray all the time, and do bible study, but can't make it to church.

Aren't/weren't you a campus minister in the Pacific Northwest some time ago? Scott and Tim are both C of C campus ministers - at OU and Univ of Ark, respectively. Chris Benjamin is the pulput minister at West Ark C of C in Ft. Smith w/ David Chadwell.
I think they basically met you and know who you are - not necessarily very well. I just heard the name from them.
Not sure if you're the same guy, but how many Milton Stanleys who are C of C ministers can there be?
- Jeff Richardson (CJR)
Jeff, I've never even even to the Pacific NW. Until six months ago, I'd lived my entire life in Tennessee, most of it in my home town of Oak Ridge. Some would say one Milton Stanley preaching in Churches of Christ is too many; I can hardly imagine there being two of us.
That said, have you considered joining the Churches of Christ bloggers aggregator? There's a link on the right side of my blogpage. Let me know and I'll add your blog. Peace.
Jeff W., thanks for commenting. I'm glad to hear you pray and study the Bible, but I honestly don't think it's possible to be a Christian without worshipping with other Christians (as long as we're able to do so). Hope you find the right answer to this one in your prayer and Bible study. M
Milton, this made me chuckle, you are famous and don't even know it! :)

That'd be great - thanks!
Jeff
Wonderful, Jeff! I've added you to the aggregator and your new posts should begin appearing today. Peace.
Jeff,
Dal referred to Milton Jones.
