Who would have thought it?

In the UK, at least, Christian men prefer singing anthemic hymns to more emotional love songs.

Oh, yes...this is so true of my husband and my sons! SOOOOO true. So with our family it doesn't matter what generation you come from ;-)

I agree. Although I'm part of the boomer demographic that's supposed to prefer peppy praise songs, I sometimes say, only half in jest, that I like only hymns written before 1864. My oldest son probably has an even stronger preference for older hymns.

Yes, my oldest son (28) likes the old ones and the new ones. He was frustrated with his church because they never sang any of the old ones. They often didn't sing any of the new ones either--they would make their own!!! I think they are doing some changing there-(and their church has about 5,000 attending at different campouses in the Seattle area). People can neglect the great heritage and some of those old hymns are truly rich. Our church happens to have a big pipe organ and our organist plays it super loud--it really makes for some awesome worship ;-)(we also have a more contemporary service--I don't understand why we cant mix the 2!! Some people just are very set in how they view what they want to sing....ah well.

The church I attend sings a combination of older and newer songs, too (though none very old or very new), but we sing all of them old-style (as in first-century old-style): a capella.
