Preaching formula
"I have a formula: Pain + time + insight = change. Sometimes people go through pain over a period of time, but that doesn't change them. But pain and time plus insight will, and that's where the preacher comes in."
Helping preachers to proclaim, and all Christians to hear, the transforming Word of God

Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind so that you may be able to determine what God's will is -- what is proper, pleasing, and perfect. - Rom. 12:2

Linking to a given site doesn't mean I necessarily agree with everything it says. And since this is a blog, not a sermon, I'm not being fastidious about qualifying every post. If you're a preacher of the Word, you ought to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff. If you want to see what I believe and preach, go to my sermons page:

I can certainly agree with the factors of pain, time, and insight being included in the change process, but where do the Holy Spirit, faith, repentance, and the gospel fit into his equation? Perhaps these are included in his concept of "insight". Does the rest of his article address these?
Good question. I do recommend giving the whole article a look, because it covers a whole lot of ground.
OK, I just read the whole article, which excellent as you say. The quote you highlighted comes from a section in which he talks about how the Holy Spirit applies God's Word to an individual's situation (I think that's what he means by "insight"). So, that answers my question. Thanks Milton! Keep 'em comin'.
You're quite welcome, Jimmy. And thank you for your comments. Peace.
