Why video hurts preaching

"I think the use of video and drama largely is a token of unbelief in the power of preaching. And I think that, to the degree that pastors begin to supplement their preaching with this entertaining spice to help people stay with them and be moved and get helped, it's going to backfire.... It's going to communicate that preaching is weak, preaching doesn't save, preaching doesn't hold, but entertainment does."

I respectfully disagree. John Piper is an amazing preacher.
Preachers make use of the stories. Jesus made use of stories. The Bible makes use of stories. Stories connect with us, and as John Piper admits, they are powerful. Drama and video are part of the story-telling repertoire. Well used, they are not there merely for entertainment. In the medieval church, drama grew out of Bible readings because the masses were illiterate.
