Fear and the new covenant

Jeff Weddle has more to say on fear of the Lord:
The “fear of the Lord” is one of those Old Testament concepts people don’t think they need anymore. That was for those under the Law who had to fear the earth swallowing them. Today we’re under grace and God is love now, not fear.

So goes the rationale. I beg to differ.
Jeff explains at the link. His earlier essay on fear of the Lord is here.

so you are saying that as adopted children it behooves us to fear our heavenly father.

consider heb8 about if the previous covenant was without fault there would be no need for a 2nd to REPLACE IT.

perhaps if you could show where this fear is expressed in paul's writings.

if there is dumbness it is not their dumbness but instead it is our dumbness. in the body of christ we own our failings communally just as we do our glories.

Feetxxxl, thanks for visiting and commenting.

In a biblical sense, yes, we should fear God. Examples on fear of the Lord from Paul's writings would be Rom. 11:20, 2 Cor. 7:1, Eph. 5:21, and Phil. 2:12. Of course you can find examples from Paul's writings on not fearing (esp. Rom. 8:15 and 2 Tim. 1:7), but that's a different angle on fear. In short, "fear of the Lord" is indeed found in both OT and NT.

I welcome your futher comments, but if you want to have a substantial online discussion, you might find a more fruitful discussion at the link on Jeff's site.

Thanks again for interacting with the post, and you're always welcome here.
