Christians, are we listening?

In making sense of world news, Dennis Prager offers some basic advice: "If you are ever morally confused about a major world issue, here is a rule that is almost never violated: Whenever you hear that 'world opinion' holds a view, assume it is morally wrong" (HT: Culture Watch).

Perhaps it's more appropriate to hold a "hermenutic of suspicion"?

What's "world opinion" on the current situation in the Holy Land? I don't actually know, but simply determining what world opinion is and deciding to "take the other side" isn't really the way I want to make a moral decision on this matter. As an example.

I suspect you weren't suggesting anything as simplistic as that, but in our dualistic world, I'm afraid that such a tool could end up being used that simplistically.

You're right, Pam. No doubt people will abuse "be suspcious of world opinion" as much as they abuse "world opinion says." In this case "hermeneutic of suspicion" sounds like a good approach.

I don't really know what world opinion on the Holy Land is right now. I have noticed that on the news outlets I read, casualties among non-combatant Lebanese seem to be played up more than those among non-combatant Israelis.

Pam, Milton,

Perhaps Prager does have it right, even in the middle east situation.

There is definately a "world opinion" being touted 24/7 on TV, radio, and in the print media. And I think the world is wrong.

That's my view from here..
