Byron at A Ticking Time Blog draws on the words of G.K. Chesterton to critique the thoroughly modern notion of "believing in yourself." As Byron points out, the whole idea of self-esteem--although endorsed by no less a cultural icon than that lovable ogre Shrek--is a
thoroughly unbliblical notion. Could Byron be suggesting it's a mistake for Christian parents to leave their children's character development to Hollywood and Madison Avenue?
Update: Blogotional has
another take on Christian self-esteem.

Hey Milton,
Where can I find this CofC aggregator? Keep up the great blogs.
People should have a good image of themselves, but not because of who they are born to be, but because of who Christ makes them to be. I did a post on this and some other stuff here

How very true, John. It's not who we are, it's whose we are. Thanks for the link; I'm updating the post to include it.
