What do you mean no invitations?
Has it ever hit you that the early church very likely didn't end their house church gatherings with an altar call? As far as we know, no one came to the front, filled out a card, and said, "I haven't been the example I should be." The nature of their gatherings, however, offered ongoing chances to encourage each other, confess to each other, and pray for each other.
The whole post is worth reading (HT: Preacher Smith.)

As far as I know, Mike hasn't offered an invitation on a regular basis for years.* He's just now getting around to telling us all why!
(*At least he didn't when Angi and I were members there from 1998-2001.)
Thanks what I've gathered. I liked how Mike points out that invitations as currently practiced aren't particularly biblical and are, historically, a recent phenomenon.
