6 Comments:
This observation has many presuppositions, but let me first say that I am not in a position, on first read, to argue one way or the other.
Supposition:
1. levites always did what is right in the case of adultry, fornication and the like.
Ephraim, the Levite probably did have many choices. Maybe he just tarried too long at the wine.
Evidently he did love her, he went after her.
I do believe there is a reason why it is in there for us today-regardless of what their sins were.
I see a bigger picture rather than that of restoring a besmirched reputation. Summed up, sin has it's consequence. One sin builds upon others. (see Numbers 13) Maybe what Ephraim did with his wife was a symbolic message to Israel. Like we should have listened to God in the first place. (my observation)
In any case, the father-in-law didn't do right by either of them. Taking her back in (4 months?) Or making them stay 5 additional days.
The father was probably wrong in either case to take her back.
Thought provoking to say the least.

Good observations, TCC. Thanks for looking at the bigger picture and its implications and for sharing your thoughts here. Peace.
Incredible--the different light shed by a different translation. I didn't recall this story, but it still disturbs me. Thanks for posting, and for also sharing that link to the Parallel translations on the 'net. I'll bookmark it.
Sorry it disturbed you Vicki, but I do hope it's helpful. Peace.
Hi Milton. Oh, it was just that the story of what happened to the woman disturbed me, but the post was VERY helpful, in that it provided helpful insight, and good comentary on the various translations of the text of Judges 19:2. There is so much I need to learn in the scriptures.
Also wanted to thank you for making Isaiah 61:1-3 a prayer for me recently. Still taking a break from blogging but find it helpful to visit other blogs that bless me right now, particularly those who uphold the Word of God.
I'm honored, Vicki. May your blogging break be refreshing. Peace.
